Introduction to Technology in
Education
The
learning process is engulfed with technology. Teachers need to keep updated
with the new systems, software and equipment. On a daily basis, the teacher
needs to learn and adapt to the ever developing advances in technology. The
learner also has to show a high amount of digital skills just to be able to
pass a course whatever their subject may be e.g. physical education.
Personally
being born in 1990, technology has always been a part of my life. It has not
only been part of my leisure time e.g. playing PlayStation or watching TV, but
also an integral part of my education. From school age, if I was unable to use
‘Microsoft Word’ or similar to write my essays I would have come across
barriers in my learning and with handing-in important assignments.
Without
knowing it, technology has gradually become more involved in my learning
process. Throughout College, great importance was put on looking at textbooks
in the library but when I studied my Undergraduate degree in University, more
importance was placed on looking at eBooks (electric/online books) and
eJournals (electric/online journals).
I
am a student on the PGCE PCET programme, and as part of the course we were
given a week of ICT (information communications technology) lectures.
Beforehand, I thought I was completely digitally literate (competent with
technology) but I soon saw there was more out there than originally thought.
